Aggregate Expenditure Limit and What it means for AZ schools?

What is the Aggregate Expenditure Limit (AEL)? It is a Constitutional Amendment that was passed by Arizona voters in 1980 which created a spending limitation for school districts based on the aggregate expenditure of all districts. This limitation excludes charter schools and only applies to district public schools. According to aea.org  the legislature needs to act on AEL by March 1, 2022 or school districts will need to cut their current school budgets (15.26%) starting April 1, 2022.  The impact that this loss of funding can effect are: Maintenance and Operations District Additional Assistance Desegregation Funding Classroom Site Fund Results Based Funding School Facilities Transportation Funding With the current state of education; abandoned positions, students and staff quarantines, hundreds of non certified positions unfilled, this loss of funding could be catastrophic for public education.    There is a glimmer of hope.  The legislation has chosen to...

Book Donation for Read Across America

 WDEA Donates Books to WESD Libraries Mountain View Librarian Hannah Perkins Continuing with a Read Across America tradition Washington District Education Association Executive Board voted to purchase and donate to all WESD school libraries.  Each library received the book Counting on Katherine  by Helaine Becker.  The book tells the story of how an African American mathematician, Katherine Johnson, saved Apollo 13.  Here is a read aloud of Counting on Katherine .  WDEA hopes that this book will bring inspiration to readers for many years to come.   

WDEA Makes Food Donation

 Have a Heart Food Drive WDEA donated canned and non perishable food items to the AEA and Quality Teaching and Learning Team Food Drive that was held recently from January 31 - February 6. The food collected is going to assist our AEA school communities struggling to provide food everyday for their families.   Thank you to all who contributed to this food drive.  WDEA President Sarah Bennett is pictured here dropping off WDEA collected food at the AEA headquarters in downtown Phoenix.
