Aggregate Expenditure Limit and What it means for AZ schools?
What is the Aggregate Expenditure Limit (AEL)? It is a Constitutional Amendment that was passed by Arizona voters in 1980 which created a spending limitation for school districts based on the aggregate expenditure of all districts. This limitation excludes charter schools and only applies to district public schools. According to aea.org the legislature needs to act on AEL by March 1, 2022 or school districts will need to cut their current school budgets (15.26%) starting April 1, 2022.
