You heard about Red for Ed, conversations started, stories were being shared at your site, groups texts, Facebook messenger groups and red shirts were being worn not only on Wednesday’s but almost everyday, driving by and seeing red shirts on street corners or highway overpasses, honking, car painted with messages. Hopefully I got your mind back there. The most importantly part for me was THE POWER that was felt when ALL facets of education united and stood together down on the grass at the state capital. Lawmakers in both houses will be working furiously through the weekend to hammer out numbers and write bills in time to introduce on Monday. They need an urgent reminder that public education must be the #1 priority. What could that mean? Here are some ideas: 1. Increased funding of at least $100 million for District 2. Additional Assistance (basic essentials like textbooks, computers, building maintenance, and bus repairs) 3. Increased funding of at least $20 million for school districts' choice of counselors, social workers, or security officers 4. Fulfillment of the next 5% of the Governor's 2018 "20x2020" teacher pay raise plan 5. Passage of Senate Bill 1485, phased rollback of STO growth (private school tax credits) 6.
